Part-Time Seasonal Animal Husbandry Technician
SR3 is seeking a skilled and dedicated Animal Care Technician to support the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured marine wildlife in the Pacific Northwest.
Reporting to the rehabilitation leadership team, this position plays a vital role in the daily care and treatment of marine mammal patients. Responsibilities include husbandry and feeding, medical treatments, life support system operation, and close collaboration with volunteers, veterinary staff, and response team members. The Animal Care Technician helps ensure the highest standards of animal welfare while contributing to SR3’s broader mission of marine wildlife conservation.

Strong observational skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to teamwork and biosecurity are essential. JOB TYPE: Part-time, hourly, seasonal position, Approximately 16-24hrs/week. Duration of position runs from first week of July to the last week of September 2026.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Play an active role in the oversight of husbandry care of rehabilitating animals, including but not limited to medication administration, sample collection and processing, monitoring and adjusting diets, providing enrichment and preparing for and assisting with diagnostic and medical procedures.
Oversee and participate in husbandry care, including but not limited to diet preparation, gavage feeding, enclosure cleaning and maintenance, water quality monitoring, and environmental enrichment.
Serve as the daily shift lead, providing leadership, oversight and training for volunteers and interns.
Responsible for mentoring interns and volunteers in various aspects of animal husbandry and facility tasks.
Create and maintain accurate daily husbandry and medical records.
Communicate regularly with the veterinarian, hospital staff and interns regarding management of active medical cases including, but not limited to, medical procedures, treatments, husbandry/nutrition, and behavioral enrichment.
Respond to public questions and concerns about stranded or distressed animals and other general inquiries.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
At least 18 years of age
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including most weekends, nights, and holidays as related to animal care needs.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Detailed oriented and able to follow specific instructions.
Experience working with marine mammals in a wildlife, zoo or aquarium setting
Proficient in perceiving and acting upon relevant changes in animal behaviors and conditions.
Capable of dealing with emergencies calmly and efficiently.
Must be able to work independently and as a team with the willingness to learn.
In good physical condition with the ability to work outdoors under adverse conditions (rain, heat, cold, snow, wind and direct sunlight) and independently lift 30 pounds.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
6 months of direct hands-on experience working with wild marine mammals.
Awareness of safety procedures for handling wild animals.
Experience training and managing staff or volunteers is highly desirable.
Demonstrated initiative in identifying and solving problems and recommending ideas and viable suggestions to improve operations is strongly desired.
Experience in performing basic veterinary skills such as subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections, fluid administration and medication handling
Experience driving large vehicles
COMPENSATION
$18 per hour
