Volunteer with SR³

Update: Signups for Animal Husbandry Volunteering for 2024 are now closed. New applicants will be contacted next spring for the 2025 pupping season.

There are still openings in other programs. If you are interested in volunteering with the Outreach team this summer, please make sure to select Outreach & Education as a general interest in your application.

There are lots of volunteer opportunities to help marine wildlife, supporting everything from animal care to administrative and outreach work. Depending on your interests, experience, and availability, we will find a way for you to support the mission! Below you will find a timeline of orientation and training for our largest volunteer need, Animal Husbandry during Harbor Seal Pupping Season:

Final Week of March: Email invite to virtual orientations sent to all volunteers in our database who expressed interest in animal husbandry. Volunteers select one date and time to attend a mandatory 45 minute orientation over Zoom introducing them to the program.

Second and Third Week of April: Mandatory virtual orientations occur. Volunteers who are still able to continue with the training process email the Community Engagement Coordinator and sign themselves up for training shifts. How to do so is covered during orientation.

Last week of April to First Week of June: In-person training occurs. Volunteers must attend all three sessions: Overview, Feeding and Food Prep, and Pools & Grounds. Each session is two hours long and in-person at the sealife hospital. Due to staffing limitations there will not be make-up sessions. Morning, afternoon, and evening training sessions are scheduled on every day of the week for flexible scheduling.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 18 at this time. We are happy to recommend youth volunteer opportunities with other local conservation organizations.
