Celebrate Orca Month with Action!

June is Orca Action Month, helping to raise awareness of the threats to the endangered Southern Resident killer whales (SRKWs). Most of us know that they are struggling, but do you know what you can do to help?

From preserving Chinook ("King") salmon populations to reducing your plastic footprint, there are simple choices you can make that will have a bigger impact than you might think.

Feeling inspired? Decide where YOU can jump in to help - not just this month - but all year long!

Read more on our blog ››

Tune into a talk with our Marine Mammal Research Director, Dr. Holly Fearnbach, TONIGHT at 6:30 pm PDT! Holly will talk about her ongoing aerial photogrammetry research on the endangered population of Southern Resident killer whales. Register now ››

Harbor Seal Pups Rescued

The seal pup summer takeover of SR³ has officially begun! Several harbor seal babies are now in care at the rescue center until they are old enough to survive in the wild on their own.

All of these harbor seal pup patients are too young to survive on their own but were separated from their moms. This usually happens when people or their dogs get too close to them on the beach and scare the mother away.

Please remember to stay at least 100 yards away from marine wildlife resting on beaches and keep your pets on a leash. Thank you for helping give all seal pups the best chance of survival, which is in the wild with their mom!

Hercules was our first harbor seal pup patient of the season. He arrived on May 21 weighing only about 15 pounds, but he is growing quickly with the help of ocean heroes like you!

Drone on!

An all-ages game

Join MaST, Killer Whale Tales, and SR³ at the MaST Center Aquarium on June 25 from 11 a.m. to noon to learn how drones are used to study the health and activities of the endangered Southern Resident killer whales.

Using data and pictures collected by SR³, we will explore what we can learn about whales using this aerial platform, and how it informs  conservation efforts.

Join SR³ there anytime from 10 am-2 pm to also learn about other local marine wildlife and enjoy a live video feed of the patients at our rescue center!

Seal Pup Baby Shower Wishlist

When seal pups come to the rescue center, we provide them with enrichment items to help prepare them for life in the wild again.

We have a wishlist of items that are greatly needed to enrich our patients’ time in recovery, and you can help!

  • $30 can provide a sound machine and a peaceful environment
  • $40 can buy a boppy pillow for a tiny pup
  • $120 can provide a floating raft that's great for play, with a mirror for extra stimulation

View the full wishlist and help shower our seal pup patients with everything they need to thrive!

Calling all Moms!

Boppy Donations Needed

Calling all moms! Has your baby outgrown their boppy?

You can help another little one like Hercules out, seen above at just a few days old with a boppy donated this spring.

Harbor seal pups are arriving at the facility, and nursing pillows help provide enrichment for these pups who have been separated from their moms.

Please email us at info@sealifer3.org if you are able to donate a used boppy!
