Michael Lane
Michael moved to Seattle, Washington in 1995 to start his career in internet technology at Microsoft. He spent 12 years at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, Cupertino, California, and Sydney, Australia where he was the IT Director for Microsoft Australia and New Zealand. After Microsoft, he spent 7 years at Amazon Web Services as a lead technical program manager for data center hardware development. In 2017, he assumed multiple executive roles including CTO and VP Engineering for a Taiwanese-based hardware manufacturer. In 2020, Michael returned to Seattle full-time and returned to Amazon leading product hardware and software development in Amazon's physical stores division. In 2023, he joined an AI technology startup as a product owner and research & development lead.
Michael is from Virginia Beach, VA and has a life-time connected with the ocean. In 1996, he started his first role in ocean research and conservation as a volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium. While living in California, he pursued NAUI diving certification and in 2018, he completed his Advanced Rescue Diver certification in Thailand. He has logging over 200 dives and 1000’s of underwater photos around the world including some of his favorites in Micronesia, Australia, Taiwan, Hawaii, Caribbean and Canary Islands. Since 2020, he has been participating in Ocean Conservancy’s annual community ocean debris cleanups.
Michael has 10 years non-profit board experience including executive committee roles at Artist Trust (Seattle, WA) and Tieton Arts and Humanities (Tieton, WA). In 2023, he joined the board of SR3.
